the MIMMIC project

Paul Wong, legendary multimedia artist extraordinaire, has launched the MIMMIC project through On Main Gallery. The project has some funding already, but it needs community support to make it happen. I just pledged $10 towards it. Can you spread the word and help launch this project? Check out the kickstarter page here.

Fabric, Thead. 2013.

This summer I had the honour of being selected as one of 14 featured artists in the TransgressionNow visual arts show as part of the Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver, BC. The annual event is coordinated by the Pride in Art Society and was curated this year by Paul Wong and Glenn Alteen.

My work, deCONSTRUCTIONs, was a process based project that explores issues of gender, gender identity / construction and consumer culture.

This was my first major show and it was a really fantastic experience. I had the opportunity to meet some amazing local queer artists like SD Holman and belle ancell. I also had my work featured in 24 hrs Vancouver, VancityBuzz and the Ubyssey. It even inspired this vine video by the legendary video artist and show co-curator Paul Wong.

The show ran from July 24 – August 9, 2013. If you didn’t get the chance to see it in person I’d highly recommend watching the recording of the curators talk online here.
